Normal Fishing - A lot of progress!

It's been a while...
I'm aware that it's been a long time since I posted any kind of devlog or update on here, and I suddenly realised that people may not be aware of the other platforms where I more regularly share updates and clips of some of the game content I'm working on, so I decided I needed to get on itch and post a new devlog!

So what's the news?
First of all, I want to say that Normal Fishing is very much still alive and is being developed pretty much continuously at the moment. The original plan was for the game to be much closer to completion by now, but unfortunately 2024 was unkind to us. My mother passed away, and another team member went through something very similar, and it really set us back. However, as of 2025, we're all back in action and I have far more dedicated time for the project. I recently shared an update on the development plan on The Bworg's YouTube channel here - check it out!

Besides the video update, I also more regularly talk about development and share content on Discord, and even recently released a mini demo for Normal Fishing's green sub-game (Greenhouse) on Patreon too!

What about development?
It's going well, and it's happening faster than ever before now that I'm able to properly focus on it. Currently we have a fully playable section of Greenhouse, which is by far the most complex of the sub-games in terms of development effort, and we have working vertical slices of the red and blue games. The games are planned out in detail and creating the rest of Greenhouse will now be quite a rapid task - it's one of those things where to build the functionality and working foundation of the first 20 mins of gameplay takes about as much time as making the entire rest of the game.

As for where we're going next, we are currently working on the 'reality' layer gameplay (Greylake), which is fully written, built and playable and is now awaiting the visual assets to be completed. We'll then be putting together an updated pitch to reach out to publishers and see if we can get support, as Normal Fishing would hugely benefit from the kind of reach and marketing capabilities that they have.

Next steps
With the Greenhouse demo out for Patreon supporters, we've had some feedback on Greenhouse and are working on implementing some fixes and improvements. As mentioned above, we have the reality segment to finish and then pitching, but beyond that the plan is to complete Greenhouse and then move on to the red and blue games. It will still take a while to complete as we are pretty much making five games in one here, but I'm feeling good about the pace because honestly, the functionality of everything after Greenhouse is kind of already done and will be a breeze to get through, development wise!

I'll try to be more frequent with updates on here, seeing as I've done such a poor job of it so far. But I hope to see you in the Discord if you want to drop in and say hi!

"Loveyoubye!"
